Summary:
The Clinical Laboratory Technician collects blood samples by venipuncture, or capillary sites; performs and reports test results for wavied and moderate complexity testing, and must follow laboratory policy, documentation standards, and all applicable regulatory requirements.
COLLECTS SAMPLES BY VENIPUNCTURE OR CAPILLARY (FINGER,HEEL) WITH HIGH DEGREE OF PROFICIENCY.
Follows specimen collection protocol for collection and preservation of all samples tested in-house, or referred to reference laboratories.
Uses good judgment on site selection of the puncture to minimize discomfort, and assure the collection of a quality specimen.
Processes collected/received specimens in a timely manner following established protocol.
Labels, or assures proper and complete labeling of all collected samples, or those received in the laboratory.
INSTRUCTS AND ASSISTS PATIENTS, BUSINESS OFFICE, NURSING, PHYSICIANS, OR CO-WORKERS ABOUT PROPER SAMPLE COLLECTION REQUIREMENTS, AND SERVES AS LAB LIAISON FOR ALL REQUIRED LABORATORY SERVICES.
Instructs patients on the proper collection of laboratory specimens that require specific collection criteria.
Assists nursing, and other personnel with collection instructions, and distributes collection containers as needed.
Serves as the laboratory liaison for physicians, nursing, business office, and others within the clinic setting by communicating technical and general information to clinic staff, and co-workers in a professional manner.
Demonstrates technical skills to new employees, and students, when applicable, in a complete and concise manner.
USES THE LABORATORY INFORMATION SYSTEM, OR SMS, FOR MANAGING PATIENT AND PHYSICIAN ORDERS, LABORATORY BILLING, AND HANDLING OF CRITICAL VALUES.
Uses the LIS for accessioning and tracking of laboratory orders for all testing performed within the laboratory, or testing referred to various reference laboratories.
Interprets SMS, and other laboratory orders, and performs or completes patient billing (electronic), or assures that charge documents (manual) are accurately completed to assure timely billing.
Reviews and distributes laboratory test results in a timely manner following clinic specific protocol.
Receives, documents, and reports critical values within established time frames.
Properly documents the receipt of verbal orders, and assures that all verbal orders are followed up by written orders.
PERFORMS WAIVED AND MODERATE COMPLEXITY TESTING FOLLOWING ESTABLISHED POLICY AND PROCEDURE.
Performs and reports accurate test results within established turnaround times.
Performs and documents all quality control procedures associated with every test trained to perform.
Recognizes 'out of control' situations and promptly notifies appropriate supervisory personnel.
Performs and documents all preventive maintenance required for the various testing procedures performed within the laboratory.
Performs and reports results of proficiency testing and maintains acceptable competency levels for all testing performed within the laboratory.
ASSISTS IN CREATING A HIGH QUALITY LABORATORY ENVIRONMENT.
Maintains adequate inventory levels of supplies, and orders supplies as needed.
Maintains a clean, orderly, and safe work environment at all times.
Maintains and files various laboratory records in a neat, organized, and readily retrievable manner according to regulatory requirements.
CONDUCTS TRAINING AND ASSURES COMPETENCY OF POINT-OF-CARE PERSONNEL.
Trains all personnel involved in POC testing within the clinic.
Reviews, and advises personnel on all POC testing requirements (quality control, documentation for test reporting) Performs calibration verification for applicable POC instrumentation as required by the test menu.
Reviews maintenance, quality control, and other associated records as required.
Distributes and assures timely testing of proficiency samples.
Reports proficiency testing results within allotted time frames.
Conducts competency assessment of POC personnel.
PERFORMS OTHER POSITION APPROPRIATE DUTIES AS REQUIRED IN A COMPETENT, PROFESSIONAL AND COURTEOUS MANNER.
REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITY:

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
