Summary:
Monitor system consoles to ensure availability of systems.
Interpret console messages from system software and/or applications software and perform required action.
Review daily logs and status reports for updates, changes and/or exceptions to the normal Production schedule.
Perform daily back-ups of Mainframe environment.
Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
UNDER MODERATE SUPERVISION, MONITOR PRODUCTION BATCH JOB SCHEDULING SO THAT PRODUCTION SCHEDULES ARE MET.
Ensure scheduled batch jobs flow efficiently throughout normal parameters.
Prioritize output reports to meet user needs.
UNDER MODERATE SUPERVISION, HANDLE INPUT AND OUTPUT MEDIA/DATA WITH DUE CARE FOR INTEGRITY AND UTILITY FOR SUBSEQUENT USE.
Perform incoming and outgoing file transfers as documented.
Perform file encryptions as needed.
Perform STORE and RESTORE procedures, as needed.
Assist in the initialization of the various operating systems and/or hardware.
Perform recovery procedures for routine operating system and/or hardware failures.
Perform problem reporting and assistance on various in-house computer systems for user community.
Use of system and third-party software commands to manipulate system processes and attached peripherals.
Loading, mounting and troubleshooting of all tape drives.
Performing preventive maintenance on tape drive such as cleaning and ensuring all hardware is operable.
Know process for reporting failures and scheduling repairs for all peripherals.
UNDER MODERATE SUPERVISION, MAINTAIN OFF-SITE TAPE MEDIA STORAGE.
Know process for retrieving and returning tapes from off-site.
UNDER MODERATE SUPERVISION, TRAINING, CONTINUITY AND TECHNICAL WRITING PERFORMS OTHER POSITION APPROPRIATE DUTIES AS REQUIRED IN A COMPETENT, PROFESSIONAL AND COURTEOUS MANNER.
REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITY:
An Associate''s degree (two-year program) or equivalent formal training program.
A Bachelor''s degree (e.
g.
, BA, BS, BSN, BSW) preferred.
One to two years experience required.
Two to three year experience in HMO, health care, or insurance applications preferred.
Moderate experience in PC applications, DOS and Unix required.
Experience in a mainframe environment and a Hewlett-Packard environment preferred.
Moderate skills in PC Applications/OS and Unix.
Also Technical Writing skills preferred.
