Ability to do the work of an Automotive Mechanic without more than normal supervision. performing common tasks of an Automotive Mechanic. Skilled in performing maintenance, repair, overhaul, replacement, installation on major components, assemblies and other systems such as engines, transmissions, fuel, electrical, exhaust, brakes, steering and suspension. working under the supervision of a Supervisor who issues instructions on work sequences, procedures, methods, and deadlines. Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Works in tiring or uncomfortable positions for long periods. The work requires frequent standing, bending, reaching, stretching, climbing, and crouching. Works on top of, under, and inside compartments of vehicles. Frequently lifts and carries items, unassisted, weighing up to 50 pounds. Heavier items are lifted with assistance of other workers or with weight lifting equipment such as jacks, hoists, overhead cranes, etc. Moves arms and legs when operating various levers, pedals, and steering mechanisms on vehicles. Working Conditions:
Works both inside and outside. Exposed to drafts, changing temperatures, and noise. Exposed to irritations and discomfort from dust, grease, heat, and fumes. Typically works on parts that are dirty, oily, and greasy. Subject to cuts, burns, bruises, electrical shock, and injuries from falls when removing or installing parts on top of vehicles. Follows prescribed safety practices and uses protective safety equipment and protective clothing as required.
